Each year, members are
encouraged to make a lap quilt which the guild will donate to a charitable
organization. Over the years dozens of quilts have been donated to
residents of Calais Methodist Homes and since 2012 to Charlotte and
Washington counties' Hospice organizations.
We organize a workshop the first Saturday in January dedicated to teaching
members a new lap quilt pattern and encouraging them to donate this quilt
to Hospice. A few free patterns
for several previous lap quilts are included on the
Lessons, Patterns, and More page. If members would rather donate
another quilt of their own choosing, they are gratefully accepted.
The size of lap quilts should be no smaller than 54" x 65". Our
organization pays for the batting and machine quilting for each quilt.
Members supply the tops and backing.
