Christmas Party
Year-Long Fund Raising
Project to Benefit Greenland Point
Our Dove in the Window quilt raffle and snowmen
crafts are shown above at the Woodland Craft Fair to raise money for
Greenland Point. Diane Odenbrett of Florida purchased the winning
ticket at the Machias Blueberry Festival in August, one of the many places
we took the quilt to sell raffle tickets. Thanks to Diane and the many
others who bought raffle tickets and crafts to support Greenland Point
Center, we raised enough money to send four children to camp next summer.
Also, a huge thank
you to members of St. Croix Quilters who helped sell tickets and/or donated
amazing snowmen crafts. In all, we raised $2,410 for Greenland Point;
we couldn't have done it without your enthusiasm and support.

Quilters Studio Tour, July 9
Six quilters opened their studios to
almost 30 visitors who discovered what they can do to create their own
studio even if it's only the corner of a guest bedroom. Creative
and interesting ideas were presented for fabric storage, design walls,
book/magazine and equipment storage, lighting, and more.
After the tour, everyone
gathered at the Redclyffe Shore Restaurant in Robbinston for dinner and
door prizes.

Trunk Show of Original Designs
with
Kathleen Watts
Professional quilt artist, Kathleen Watts, of Great Wass Island, ME,
was our featured speaker in May. Her quilts, including "Mermaid,"
shown here, are one of a kind creations,
some are machine embroidery only, others are a combination of embroidery and
appliqué. her quilts have been featured at many galleries and exhibitions.
Kathleen enjoys a passion for color and flowing designs. The nature around
influences a great deal of her designs. She uses hand-painted fabrics,
silks, suedes, feathers, dryer lint, and beading on many of her quilts.
To see many of the quilts that were included in the trunk show, check out her
website and
click on "gallery."
Under the guidance of Washington
and Hancock Counties Project Linus Coordinator, Dianne Finnegan, several
members met on April 6 for a workshop to make quilts for Project Linus.
Dianne brought "tons" of donated fabric, batting, and simple patterns
and is grateful and amazed with the number of quilts made for Project
Linus. Also thank you to those who helped provide a delicious
lunch.

The Mill Girls of the 1830s
with Kathy Kenny
This historic quilt lecture on April 2, 2011, by
Kathy Kenny of Yarmouth, ME, introduced us to the New England textile mills
and the girls who worked there. Those in attendance heard about their living and working
conditions and how cloth was produced. Voices of actual mill workers made us feel as though
we were really there during this explosive time of
quilting history. There were about 35 antique quilts from this era
on display.
