Unless otherwise noted, workshops and meetings take place at the Calais Methodist Homes Recreation Hall, Sunrise Circle, Palmer St., Calais, Maine (all times are US times).  Remember to pre-register and get a supply list for workshops you're interested in.

All workshops are open to the public as space permits; pre-registration is a must.

Saturday Workshop, 9 am to about 4 pm

Northern View Quilt with Joanne Spencer.  Designer Lidia Froehler of Cotton Treasure Design created Northern View for Quilt Sampler spring/summer 2012 magazine.  She invokes images of Canada with mountain units, maple leaf blocks and flying geese units radiating from the center star.  It is truly a Canadian quilt that you can make in two sizes-- 75 " x 75 " and 95 " x 95 ".  Image   Supply List
March 6 Wednesday Afternoon Workshop, 9 am to about 3 pm

9-noon  Sit & Sew until noon
1-3 pm  "Portable Quilt Block Carrier"
with Lynda Coffey.  If you like to take quilt blocks in progress to workshops or meetings to work on them, this carrier allows you to do that without folding your work or disturbing the placement of the pieces.  Revised Supply List

Wednesday Business Meeting, 6 pm

Program will be Fools for Binding Tools with Marlene Wilbur.

Small stuffed animals to be donated to the Calais Hospital Emergency Dept are due.

We'll also have a 2-minute tip, Show & Tell, Fabric Drawing, and light refreshments.

April 3 Wednesday evening workshop 6-8 pm

Handy Mason Jar Pincushion with Joanne Spencer.  Need a handy place for pins and other sewing supplies?  This may be the workshop for you.  Supply List 
April 6 Saturday Workshop, 9 am to about 4 pm

Simply Cool Quilt, designed by Pleasant Valley Creations, will be taught by Bonnie Hunter.  This quilt is super easy to make.  If you can sew a 4-patch, you can make this quilt.  Lots of color suggestions on page 2 of the supply list.  In addition to the Supply List, you will also need to ask Bonnie for the cutting chart.  Supply List 
April 17 Wednesday Business Meeting, 6 pm

Program will be Brainstorming Ideas for a New Banner Design facilitated by Bonnie Hunter.  Members are encouraged to bring in lots of ideas.

Yellow Chapter Challenge Entry Form is due.  Your actual challenge is not due until the June 19 business meeting.

Doll clothes for the 18" Doll Raffle are due.  We will begin selling tickets in May--drawing at the Grand Lake Stream Folk Art Festival in July.

We'll also have a 2-minute tip, Show & Tell, Fabric Drawing, and light refreshments.
May 1
Wednesday evening workshop, 6-8 pm

Special guest will be Pam Williams, an expert on vintage and antique Singer sewing machines, who will provide a short history of sewing machines in the US.  She will be bringing:

- a Singer Dating Book with which she will be able to tell you when your Singer machine was "made" if you bring in the serial number.

- a handout listing sources for supplies for older machines. 

- examples of older, beautifully-decorated treadle and hand crank machines.

- samples of quilts and blocks made with treadle and/or crank machines.
May 4 Saturday Workshop, 9 am to 4 pm

Jelly Roll Rug with Joline Cook and Joanne Spencer.  Learn tips and tricks to make beautiful and colorful jelly roll rugs.  All you need is some pre-cut batting and a jelly roll of fabric!

How to Use Graph Paper to Escape the Grid with Jane Eaton, who will share her technique of designing a sampler quilt using graph paper that includes working with blocks of varying sizes.  Supply List coming soon

Program will be a demonstration of a Flanged Binding with Marilyn Wimmergren.
