Two Tone Brownies

Mix in order given (I mix by hand so as to not over beat):

cup butter or margarine, room temperature
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
  cup flour
½ tsp. baking powder
¼ tsp. salt

Divide dough into two equal-ish parts. 

To one half add:

1 ½ square baker's chocolate, melted
½ cup coconut
½ tsp. almond extract

To the other half add:

½ cup chopped walnuts
½ cup chopped maraschino cherries

Put chocolate mixture into greased 8" x 8" pan; then spoon the cherry mixture on top.  Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.

Frost with chocolate icing (below) when still slightly warm.  Mix ingredients with mixer till spreading consistency.

2 ¼ cups confectioner's sugar
2 Tbsp. butter or margarine, softened, not melted
½ tsp. vanilla
Dash of salt
¼ cup cocoa
2-3 Tbsp. milk

Let cool and cut into 16 squares (cut each in half for daintier pieces).
